The Korean Service Committee for Young People of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the Americas Founded:
A result of 9 time leadership training workshops over 3 years

The young adult Korean-American volunteers of the Korean Service Committee of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the Americas founded the Korean Service Committee for Young People (KSC-Y) at Apostle John's House in Tacoma, WA on March 30th, 2008.  The young adult volunteers completed the 9th Life in the Spirit Seminar Workshop prepared by the Korean Service Committee (KSC) and participated in the formal meeting to create and elect the officers of KSC-Y.

Along with the 21 young adult leaders in attendance were Dn. Joseph Lee (Chairman of KSC), Julia Lee (Secretary of KSC), and Andy Lee (Campus Ministry Coordinator).  By unanimous vote, Soon-Ho (Francis) Ahn, who is currently serving as the president of the South East (Charlotte, NC) region, has been elected the Chairperson of KSC-Y for a 2-year term.  Jae-Hoon (Alberto) Sa from Vancouver, Canada will serve as Vice-Chairperson of KSC-Y and President of Canada-West region.  The young leaders in attendance also renewed their commitments to serve and to be a witness of Pentecostal miracles.

Through the creation of KSC-Y, KSC's arduous efforts of the past 3 years to raise a generation of young Korean-American leaders have finally borne fruit.  KSC and KSC-Y will work together to provide a better service to not only the Korean communities in each region, but also to American church communities in each diocese.  On the advisory committee of KSC-Y are Msgr. Augustine Park (Chairman of KSC,Archdiocese of Newark), Msgr. Joseph Malagreca (Diocese of Brooklyn), Fr. James Cho (Archdiocese of Newark), Fr. Richard J. Loch (Diocese of Scranton), Fr. Bob Hogan (Archdiocese of San Antonio), Mr. Walter Matthews (Executive Director of NSC), and Dn. Joseph Lee.  

KSC-Y, with the support of KSC, has pledged to serve the local Korean churches and communities as well as college communities.  KSC-Y will also create its own website and publish the English version of the bi-monthly KSC newsletter.

미주 한인 공동체의 은사적 쇄신을 위하여 봉사하는 영어권 청년 지도자들이 지난 3월 30일 워싱턴 주 타코마 소재 사도 요한의 집 (KSC 피정 센터)에서 전 미주 한인 청년 봉사 위원회 (KSC-Y)를 창립했다.

청년 봉사자들은 3월 28-29일 가톨릭 성령 은사적 쇄신 미주 한인 봉사 위원회 (KSC)가 주최한 9차 성령 안의 삶 세미나 청년 팀 봉사자 교육 훈련을 마친 후 준비한 정관을 만장 일치로 통과시키고 임원을 선출했다. 전국에서 모인 청년 지도자 21명과 KSC 회장 이창재 부제, 이은경 사무국장 그리고 이용명 대학 선교 전문 위원이 참석한 가운데 2년 임기 초대 회장에 안순호(프란시스) 동남부 (샬롯) 청년 봉사 회장이 만장 일치로 선출됐다. 부회장으로는 사재훈(알베르토) 카나다 서부 (뱅쿠버) 청년 회장을 비롯, 각 지역 봉사회 청년 회장들을 선임하기로 했다.

이날 참석한 청년 지도자들은 적극적인 열의를 가지고 주님께서 부르시는 곳이면 오순절 현장을 증거하기 위하여 땅 끝까지라도 달려가겠다는 결의를 확인했다.

이로써 KSC가 지난 3년 동안 심혈을 기울여 추진한 전 미주 한인 영어권 청년 지도자 양성이 결실을 맺었다. KSC는 앞으로 각 지역 봉사회와 더불어 새로 발족한 KSC-Y를 적극 지원하기로 하고 이들을 도와서 한인 뿐만 아니라 미 주류 교회의 쇄신을 위하여 봉사할 수 있도록 광범위한 자문단을 추대했다.

자문단은 박창득 몬시뇰 (뉴왁 대교구), 죠셉 말라그레카 몬시뇰 (부르클린 교구), 조 야고버 신부 (뉴왁 교구), 리차드 롴 신부(스크랜톤 교구), 밥 호간 신부(산 안토니오 대교구), 월터 매튜스( NSC 상무이사), 이창재 부제 (KSC 회장) 등이다.

앞으로 KSC-Y 봉사팀은 KSC의 지원을 받아 각 지역의 한인 공동체, 대학 선교 센터와 주류 교회의 요청에 부응하여 충실히 봉사할 것을 다짐하고 KSC-Y 웹 싸이트를 개설하며 KSC 소식지(격월간)과 병행하여 KSC-Y 영어판 뉴스레터를 분기별로 발간하기로 하였다.
